The League Format Explained - Revised for Season 2011-12
At the end of the 2011-12 season, the club leagues will be restructured as follows:
- The Premier League (currently Prem 1) will consist of 10 teams playing home and away
- The National League (currently Prem 2) will also consist of 10 teams playing home and away
- Below the National League will be two parallel leagues called "Championship A" and "Championship B"
To effect this restructure, promotion/relegation at the end of season 2011-12 will be as follows:
- Prem 1 and Prem 2 will split into Prem A, B and C halfway through the season (as happened for season 2010-11)
- At the end of the season, all clubs in Prem A and the top 2 of Prem B will become the Premier League
- The remaining clubs in Prem B plus the top four of Prem C will become the National League
- The remaining clubs in Prem C, all of Premier 3 and the top four teams in National 1 will become Championship A and Championship B with those leagues being arranged on geographical lines as much as possible
There will most likely be a lot of discussion around this in the coming months, once we get hold of definitive documentation regarding it, we will publish it here.
