| Hills v Edinburgh Accies 2nd September 2006 NO FESTIVAL IN THE CAPITAL EDINBURGH ACCIES 22pts HILLHEAD/JORDANHILL 0pts Although the “Hills” failed to disturb the scoreboard, this was a much better performance than supporters had witnessed at Braidholm the previous Saturday. Gone was the downcast and the abject to be replaced by spirit and commitment for the full 80 minutes. Certainly, the odds were stacked against the visitors when the squads for the visit of the 1st and 2nd Hills to Raeburn Place were announced, as some 26 of the first XV squad out of the 51 registered were, for various reasons, unavailable. Worse was to follow when Fraser Murray emerged from very first ruck of the game clutching his shoulder, necessitating a visit by ambulance to the “Royal” to have the dislocation attended. But the “Hills”, their coaches and supporters sought inspiration from this incident and proceeded to contest every first and second phase situation courageously. The lead for the team came from no. 8, Campbell Rae who had indicated his intentions that he was not to be meddled with when responding to some over vigorous opposition play. While the “indiscretion” resulted in 10 minutes in the “cooler”, the overall effect on his return was to see Campbell playing perhaps his finest game for the “Hills” with bullocking charges, line out takes and smothering tackles. The team responded admirably, none more so that Murray Allan on the flank and Jamie Hunter at scrum half. The half time score of 10-0 was a fair reflection, although the team deserved better than a 22 drop out following an excellent break out from full back Ross Curle. The second half also witnessed a considerable campaign in the Accies 22, but nothing came from it, although the home line led a charmed life on occasions. By the end, however, the Accies deserved their win by the margin of three tries and one goal. “Hills” head Coach, Aaron Collins, was delighted with the show: “ This was more like it, and if we can eliminate the mistakes where we try to do too much and give the ball away, then we shall come on to a game soon. We fielded, with rotation, three props all under 21 years of age, and this exposure at this level can only augur well for the future.” “Hills” 1st XV – Ross Curle, Allan Cahoon, David Paterson, Will Marshall, Stuart Todd ( Kenny Gibson), Scott Weston, Jamie Hunter, Douglas Walker ( Nick Macauley ), Ewen Weir ( Stewart McMillan ), Joe Stafford ( Douglas Walker ), Fraser Murray ( Douglas Elder ), David Fisken, Kieran Powell, Campbell Rae, Murray Allan. Subs All used On the adjoining pitch, the “Hills” 2nd XV with a weakened side lost out to Accies 2nd XV by 31 pts to 11.
