Hills v Ayr 12th August 2006

Hills lost to Ayr 33-0 at Hughenden.

With 9 call offs from the previous weeks fixture a very young Hills side were always going
to find it hard going against a well established Premier One side and considering a number
of the Hills boys were making only their second appearance for the 1sts  they all came out
of this fixture against much more experienced and stronger opponents with great credit.

It was ex Hills man A J Macfarlane who pulled the strings for a very impressive Ayr side who
look as if they could be in line for a  good season in the top league. Hills had to defend
well from the very start and it was only after Ayr had managed a couple of tries in the first
twenty minutes that the home side put together some good attacking moves that got them
close to but not over their opponents line

Hills battled well for the second forty minutes forcing Ayr to concede a number of penalties
some of which would normally have been a case of kicking at goal but as it was a friendly
both sides opted to be positive and try to run the ball whenever possible

Although Hills will be disappointed not to manage to get points on the board the coaches
will be able to take a number of positives from this match which can be taken into this
Saturdays fixture at home to West of Scotland

In the days other fixture Hills 2nd XV ,lead by coach Murray Roxburgh, turned in a very
good performance to defeat Ayrs 2nds 12 –3
