| "HILLS SCRAPE THROUGH" Caithness RFC 6 Hillhead Jordanhill RFC 10 This was a game where "Hills" were delighted to hear the full time whistle as for 80 minutes they toiled against a very well organised and totally committed home side who play their rugby in National League Division 2. Despite heavy rain the previous evening the pitch was in good condition and "Hills" with a very strong wind behind them for the first forty minutes were looking to have a good number of points on the board come the turnaround but things did not go according to plan Throughout the first half the visitors decision making was poor ,they were too anxious at times, not all players had the same desire to win as their opponents and Caithness tackled and supported one another very well, therefore ,"Hills" failed to take advantage of the elements. It was 14 minutes before points were on the board and it was "Hills" winger Stuart Ross who barged over after the ball,on one of the very few occasions, was spun wide. Martin Yorston, who kicked well from hand all game, converted beautifully. There were two other occasions when Ross, who once again gave 100% all game, had the opportunity to go for the line but despite his strenuous calls the ball frustratingly failed to find its way to him Despite playing the next quarter in their opponents half no further points were added by "Hills" until Martin Yorston slotted home a penalty in front of the posts to give the Glasgow side a 10.0 lead after 34 minutes . With no further scoring Caithness would have been very pleased when Andy Davies, who refereed well throughout, whistled for half time It took Caithness only 2 minutes to put points on the board when "Hills"were penalised for being offside and Blair McIntosh coolly slotted home a penalty in front of the posts.Hills tried numerous barging runs from the hard working pair of Murray Allan and Cammy Kerr to gain ground in their opponents half but it was "The Greens" who doubled their score, again through McIntosh, with a penalty after 65 minutes to give them real belief that this was a game they could go on and win The reintroduction of Jeff Wright brought more poise to Hillhead Jordanhills play and it seemed that they would see out the game in their opponents half and, following good driving play by the forwards ,they had a chance to steal a last minute score but from the resultant scrum in front of the posts Sam Muir was penalised for failing to put in straight.Caithness took a quick penalty and following the kick and chase won a line out 5m from the "Hills" line.It took a big defensive effort to thwart the Caithness side in what proved to be the last play of the match An angry Aaron Collins,"Hills" head coach, kept the players in the dressing room for a "chat" after the match and promised that the players training on Tuesday evening would be more physical than planned Kenny MacAldowie,"Hillhead Jordanhill RFC" commented afterwards that he was relieved to still be in the Cup and, like the rest of the "Hills" Committee was very impressed indeed with the warm and friendly hospitality shown by President Hugh Boyd and all at Caithness RFC.
