
| Hills 2nd XV 13 GHA 2nd XV 5 JOE STAFFORD NOTCHES FIRST EVER SENIOR TRY BUT CAHOON IS REAL HERO "Hills" picked up a valuable 3 points with a victory over their Glasgow rivals at sunny Hughenden on Saturday prior to the England vs Scotland fixture at Twickenham The home side were delighted to welcome back Cammy McCulloch after 3 months on the sidelines.Cammy did remarkably well to last 75 minutes after such a long spell out but the "Hills" no 10 would be the first to praise the assistance he had from the inspirational and charismatic Alan Cahoon alongside him It was McCulloch that put the home side ahead after 10 minutes when he coolly slotted home a penalty in front of the posts.Shortly afterwards the lead was extended by 5 points when Frodo went over in the corner following good work by Ross and Cahoon.This was a deserved lead as "Hills" had started brightly with both Dougie Crichton and Stuart Ross showing up well GHA ,showing tremendous spirit ,then started to come in to the game and it was no surprise when they pulled a try back before half time.The try was not converted so "Hills" were pleased to be turning around 8-5 up "Hills" used the Hughenden slope to great effect from the start of the half and were rewarded with a try scored by the talented Joe Stafford.This was the first try scored by the young prop in senior rugby and he was more than happy to let everyone know about this after the match .Hopefully this will be the first of many that we see Joe score for "Hills" If anything,this score reinforced GHAs efforts and for the remainder of the half they played the better rugby and it was only down to fine rearguard defensive work by the excellent Cahoon that they were unable to add to their first half try.With 5 minutes remaining young Cammy McCulloch,after a polished performance,was replaced by the slightly older Murray Roxburgh who immediately made his mark.From inside his own 22 he produced a marvellous up and under which he chased himself but was bitterly disappointed to be penalised when the ref decided that he had tackled his opposite number whilst the ball was still a mere 10 metres above the GHA man's head. When the final whistle was blown it was a relieved man of the match Alan Cahoon that praised the efforts of the GHA side and stated"I was delighted today by the attitude and application of our young side.I fully expect to build on this result and look forward to our next fixture on the 17th at home to Boroughmuir" |
