JOE STAFFORD NOTCHES FIRST EVER SENIOR TRY BUT CAHOON IS
REAL HERO

"Hills" picked up a valuable 3 points with a victory over their Glasgow rivals at
sunny Hughenden on Saturday prior to the  England vs Scotland fixture at
Twickenham

The home side were delighted to welcome back Cammy McCulloch after 3 months
on the sidelines.Cammy did remarkably well to last 75 minutes after such a long
spell out but the "Hills" no 10 would be the first to praise the assistance he had from
the  inspirational and charismatic  Alan Cahoon alongside him

It was McCulloch that put the home side ahead after 10 minutes when he coolly
slotted home a penalty in front of the posts.Shortly afterwards the lead was
extended by 5 points when Frodo went over in the corner following good work by
Ross and Cahoon. This was a deserved lead as "Hills" had started brightly with
both Dougie Crichton and Stuart Ross showing up well

GHA ,showing tremendous spirit ,then started to come in to the game and it was no
surprise when they pulled a try back before half time. The try was not converted so
"Hills" were pleased to be turning around 8-5 up

"Hills" used the Hughenden slope to great effect from the start of the half and were
rewarded with a try scored by the talented Joe Stafford. This was the first try scored
by the young prop in senior rugby and he was more than happy to let everyone
know about this after the match .Hopefully this will be the first of many that we see
Joe score for "Hills"

If anything, this score reinforced  GHAs efforts and for the remainder of the half they
played the better rugby and it was only down to fine rearguard defensive work by
the excellent Cahoon that they were unable to add to their first half try. With 5
minutes remaining young Cammy McCulloch, after a polished performance, was
replaced by the slightly older  Murray Roxburgh who immediately made his
mark. From inside his own 22 he produced a marvellous up and under which he
chased himself but was bitterly disappointed  to be penalised when the ref decided
that he had  tackled his opposite number whilst the ball was still a mere 10 metres
above the GHA man's head.

When the final whistle was blown it was a relieved man of the match Alan Cahoon
that praised the efforts of the GHA side and stated"I was delighted today by the
attitude and application of our young side.I fully  expect to build on this result and
look forward to our next  fixture on the 17th at home to Boroughmuir"
