| Hughenden v Carrick 30th September 2006 Hughenden beat Carrick 8-0 Not so long ago a trip to Maybole would put the fear up ye, but last Saturday the Hughenden multinational force 1st XV travelled on a peace keeping mission. Our aim was to pacify them with a blend of old heads and young stags. It worked! In a low scoring but enthrally game the Hughs dished out a lesson in controlled rugby and played to George Gallaghers game plan. Kitch's get right up em lead role from the start inspired a team effort that has not been in evidence for a long long time. The response from the team was magical. Instrumental from the start, Mike 'the convict' tore in their defence from full back and along with Chris Proudfoot and Scott Torrance were unlucky not to score. The secret to the gameplan was the line service from P Soden. Several catch and drives were repelled by Carrick but finally the line was breached after a good line drive and subsequent move by the backs to see Rab Maxwell barge over. Carrick mounted a resurgence in the second half and stout defence turned the game for the Hughs. Indiscipline from the home team added the penalty insurance needed to seal the win. A good days work.
