The margin of their defeat was wide, some nine goals and seven tries to one goal, but the visitors kept going bravely to the end, always trying to respond to the exhortations of their Coach, Ivan Scott. For the record, the score at the end of the first half was 39 –0, with try scorers McCartney, Paterson, Kerr, McMillan, Ross, Mitchell and Jamieson, with Twaddle adding two conversions. After the break, further tries were added by McCartney, Mitchell, Harding ( 3 no. ), Le Grande, Harris, McCulloch and Gillman with “Gus” Twaddle slotting a further seven goal kicks. Moray’s try came from a clever reading of a long “Hills” pass out of defence when Mark Higgins read the intentions well to intercept and score between the home posts. Hooker, Frank Thomson, made no mistake with the conversion. In a game where there was a range of ages fielded, “Hills” included five teenagers and Moray six, with the pick of the “youth” being the visiting stand off , Lee Miller, who showed many mature touches for a 16 year old, but had to operate behind a well beaten pack with very slow ball. At the conclusion, “Hills” head coach, Keith Robertson, said: “I was pleased we managed to get this game in, and all credit to all the players on the field for keeping going for the full eighty minutes. We now have a break till the 15th March, but all the players and committee know we shall continue to work at our game.” Hills XV – Angus Twaddle, David Mitchell ( C ), David Paterson , Richard Harris, Ally Jamieson, Cammy McCulloch, David Armstrong ( Andrew Gillman ), Douglas Walker , Stewart McMillan , Nick McAulay ( Calum McConnachie ), Duncan McCartney ( Louis Le Grande ), Martin Lane ( Stuart Rose ) , Stuart Ross , Cammy Kerr and Stuart Rose ( Tom Harding ) .
