Hills 2nd XV 69 Murrayfield Wanderers 2nd XV 3

Windswept Jordanhill was the venue for this league match which Hills had to win in order that
they stay in the promotion hunt. With the match official running late it was Hills legend Charlie
Bell that started the game as ref. With such awful conditions the players were absolutely
delighted to start the match on time and Charlie ran the show for the first quarter.Charlie then
went on to run touch which meant that thanks to his build people on his touchline were now
absolutely  delighted as they were sheltered from the wind

It was the opposition, with the strong winds at their backs, that started the stronger and tested
the Hills defence in the opening 15 minutes but failed to put any points on the board.Frodo
and Mousey showing up well as Hills were forced to defend.

After 18 minutes and probably against the run of play  the home side took the lead through a
fine solo effort from Calum McConnachie which helped Hills to settle and start playing some
good controlled rugby.

With 25 minutes on the clock Richard Harris scored a second try and four minutes later
Duncan McCartney barged over for Hills 3rd.It was exactly four more minutes that Hills
stretched their lead when a superb Boyd pass found Todd whose magnificent curving run put
Hills 24.3 in front. The score was increased to 31 just before the break when the impressive
Douglas Wood went over.

Despite having the wind behind them it was 15 minutes before Hills crossed the line in the
second  half when Harris went over following a good run by Jubb.Quick tries then followed
thanks to Leslie, who showed great footballing skills to score, and then Ally Jamieson.

Hills were sticking to their game plan and were producing some excellent passages of play
and it was no surprise that additional tries came from Nick Gallagher,Rory Diamond and
Douglas Wood to make the final score 69.3 to Hills

A very good performance from Hills, especially the forwards, against a plucky Murrayfield side
who due to injuries finished with only 13 men on the park with subs all used.Hills on the other
hand  had no injuries which fortunately meant they did not have to bring on Alan Cahoon
home
