Ladies
Hillhead Jordanhill 63 Edinburgh Uni 0

Sunday saw the Hillhead Ladies triumph 63-0 in a match where conditions did little to dampen
the spirit, drive and tenacity expressed by all players on the park. 11 tries to nil showed just
how determined the Ladies were to cross the white line.

With conditions overhead and underfoot far from ideal the Ladies stuck to their task by
maintaining possession through the front eight who, at times, were phenomenal. The front
five were totally dominant come scrum time meaning the back row had a stable platform to
work from and quick decision making from no.8 Heather ‘HRL’ Lockhart meant Hills launched
many an attack from turn over ball.

The new look back line worked hard in the tough conditions and managed to create some
silky rugby.

Some of the highlights include Heather in rampaging form powering over the line for 4 scores.
Lindsey Smith scored a brace (although neither from a B-Ball!) and Susie Brown, not wanting
to miss out on the back row action, crossed the line after some good interlinking with the
centres. New player Cathy scored a true wingers try after being released from a beautifully
weighted pass from HRL. Sara, back in the no.9 jersey after a considerable absence,
exposed poor fringe defence to dart round the corner of a ruck and dive in for the pick of her
hat-trick. The ever versatile Kerry McFazden converted 4.

Credit must be given to Edinburgh University who stuck to their task admirably and who
blooded a few freshers in a tough match.

The after match celebrations included the initiation of the new players into the ranks as well
as the squad bidding farewell to Louise Docherty who is off to America after completing her
PhD. Her presence and her willingness to play at the shortest of notice will be greatly missed.

Good luck to all trialling on Sunday for inclusion in the top 44 from which the Scotland Woman’
s Autumn International and 6 Nations squads will be selected.
