| Hillhead/Jordanhill Ladies 49 Edinburgh University 0 Sunday dawned with most not expecting a game, but lo and behold the weather gods had dried out the pitch at Hughenden. Once the ref had arrived (stuck in traffic) the game kicked off. Hills immediately pressured the Uni line and were on the score sheet after 5 mins with a try from close range drives from the forwards, with Fiona getting the final touchdown. This set the tone off the first quarter with forwards setting up good ball for the backs. A fine handling move to wing Moggs saw a 10- 0 lead. Next up Suzi with a great burst to the line 15-0. Another good move from the backs and again Moggs with the score in the corner 20 -0. Then Uni woke up and for a spell held their own up front but never really threatened the hills line. Half time and a stern talking to from Kitch about discipline (pots and kettles) meant Hills really had to go for the jugular, but they came up short and for a while it looked like no further scores would occur. Then the Uni girls fitness fell away allowing Hills to dominate the last quarter with tries from Moggs, Suzi (3) and a great individual effort from Ali. Two conversions from Keri and the game was over. Moment of the match was when the ref fell flat on his in the last quarter ( see it on the video to come). Player of the day was Moggs. Next up Aberdeen Quines away on the 24th Feb, another must win. Remember guys the club dinner is not that far away, the last one in old Hughenden so lets see everyone there old, present and new. |
