Ladies
Murrayfield 7 Hillhead Jordanhill 3

Sunday saw the Hills Ladies travelling for their 3rd fixture on the road to the home of Scottish
Rugby at Murrayfield.

The Ladies turned the form book on it’s head and pushed Murrayfield Wanderers all the way
in a nail biting game which ended up with the home team cashing in their ‘get out of jail free
card’ to post a 7-3 victory.

The first half was dominated by the travelling team who controlled possession and territory
through the exquisite kicking of no.10 Julie Craig. The front five’s dominant scrumming put
pressure on the opposition’s considerably more sizeable pack and produced good turn over
ball. The first points came from the boot of Craig. Great play by the forwards forced a
Wanderers infringement that was punished by the boot of Craig who, in the absence of a
kicking tee, drop goaled the 3 points.

Hills then should have a increased the advantage when great interlinking play led them up the
left wing and 5 metres out from the Wanderers line. A case of what can only be described as
‘white line fever’ set in and the Ladies squandered their best scoring opportunity of the day.
Two further kicks at goal where missed and the half finished 0-3 to the visitors.

The second half saw another closely contested 40 minutes with Wanderers scoring through
their no.15, Lucy Millard. Wanderers reaction to the score was telling. The try was converted
by no.14, Lyndsey Harley.
Unfortunately for Hills pressure could not be turned into points and the match ended at 7-3 in
favour of the hosts.

One of the many bright points from the game saw Hills run of horrendous referees coming to
an end after the game was correctly and fairly controlled.

Players of the match were awarded to the outstanding Julie (can’t-down-Guinness- even-
though-i’m-Irish) Craig and Heather Lockhart.

Bring on the reverse fixture……….
