30th July - Willie Reid and Dougie Crawford

It is with sadness that Hillhead/Jordanhill RFC has to advise of the death of one of its
stalwarts, Willie Reid.   A former international Junior footballer with Pollok and professional
with Blackpool, Alloa, Cowdenbeath and Third Lanark, Willie came to the game later in life,
principally to support his son, Stirling, who played on the wing with Jordanhill RFC.  Ever
willing to become involved, Willie quickly established himself as an important member of the
backroom team at Kilmardinny, assisting in the physical preparation of players with very
effective pre-match and training night massages.  After the amalgamation of the Jordanhill
and Hillhead Clubs in 1988, he continued his work at Hughenden not only as a very
respected member of the player support team, but also as a very vociferous supporter of
the players on the field.  He finally retired from active duties in 2000 at the age of 79, but
continued to support the team, although due latterly to poorish eyesight he had to confess
to being "unsure who was doing what on the field."

The thoughts of all his many, many friends at Hughenden and beyond are with his wife,
Margaret, "the centre half in the family", his son Stirling, daughter Alyson and their
respective families.  Willie's funeral will be held at 13.30 at Dalnottar Crematorium at
Clydebank on Wednesday, the 2nd August

Former Hillhead player Dougie Crawford died suddenly in Toronto, his adopted home, on
12th June, this year. After leaving Hillhead High School in 1959 Dougie played for Hillhead
RFC until emigrating to Canada via London in 1967. Dougie was an architect and a stalwart
of Toronto Scottish RFC whom he played for and represented until his untimely death. He
was a great character and will be sorely missed by family and friends.
