Recap

The final scoreboard does not tell any lies  as to the one sided outcome of this Tennents Light National League 3 League game played on a fine autumnal afternoon at Hughenden.   Yet there were times during the first half when it appeared as if the understrength Wanderers might cause an upset.    The visitors scrummage held sway over the Hills pack,  and their stand off,  Andrew Guthrie, was able to send his three quarters  moving with menace up the field.     But it was from a quickly taken tap penalty  than Hills were able to re-order their own game plan.  From his own twenty  two, Hills Rory Harte mesmerized  the visitors with his feints  and changes  of direction  and finally his acceleration,  which saw him race clear to score unopposed between the posts. Thereafter the brave, but outgunned  Wanderers  had little answer anywhere to the quicksilver Hills backs.

Half time arrived arrived  with the score board  showing the Hills 31 points ahead.   By the full time whistle,  a further  59 unanswered  points had been scored.  For the anoraks,  14 tries in total  were scored in the 80 minutes played, 12 by the backs and 2  by the forwards.  Try scorers were : Rory Harte and Russell Tong  each with 3 , Ruairi Taylor 2, and then Fionn Whyte, Callum Griffiths, Adam Eakin,  MOM Scott Halliday, Murray Houston and Graham Davidson all with 1 each.  Murray Houston converted 10 of these.   A fine afternoon’s work then  for  the Hills,  but a chastening experience  for Wanderers Head Coach, Grant Sweenie and his squad from  the tail of the Bank.

Hills now take the M8 east next Saturday  to play Murrayfield Wanderers, hoping they can take this form with them.  KO 15.00 at Roseburn Gardens
